Chancellor Fingerhut Announces new Associate Vice Chancellor for Affordability and Efficiency
For Immediate Release | July 13, 2010
COLUMBUS – Ohio Board of Regents Chancellor Eric D. Fingerhut announced today that Darlene Evans McCoy will be joining the agency on Aug. 16 as associate vice chancellor for affordability and efficiency. McCoy has a distinguished public service career as the former director of the Ohio Civil Rights Commission and chief of staff for former Mayor Michael White of Cleveland. She most recently served as a partner at the law firm of Calfee, Halter & Griswold LLP.
McCoy will direct the Division of Affordability and Efficiency, which drives elements of Ohio's 10-year Strategic Plan for Higher Education aimed at making a college education in Ohio among the most affordable in the nation. The division will continue to find new ways for the University System of Ohio to save money through collaboration and smarter purchasing practices, and to provide more low-cost, high-quality educational options for Ohio families. She fills the post previously held by Patrick McLean, who became Toledo City Finance Director in January.
"Darlene's experience and talent will accelerate our work to make education more affordable for Ohioans," Chancellor Fingerhut said. "I am excited for her to join our team and help the University System of Ohio deliver even higher value to Ohio’s citizens."
"I am thrilled to return to public service and honored to have the opportunity to work with Chancellor Fingerhut to help more Ohioans afford college," McCoy said.
McCoy’s work will include supporting the University System of Ohio Advisory Committee on Efficiency's work to improve productivity at college and universities and coordinate system-wide administrative solutions. In 2009, the Lumina Foundation for Education awarded Ohio $950,000 as part of a major national effort to increase productivity in higher education. Successes within the University System of Ohio include the Rx Ohio Collaborative, a prescription drug purchasing program estimated to save state entities $300 million by 2011, The University of Akron and Lorain County Community College "back-office" shared service agreement, and the Ohio Virtualization Program, a purchasing aggregation initiative with the potential of saving Ohio colleges and universities more than $130 million over three years.
