Dr. Michael Schwartz Will Retire in July 2009 as President of Cleveland State University
Statement from Chancellor Eric Fingerhut
June 23, 2008
Ohio is grateful for President Schwartz's distinguished service to our state and the Northeast Ohio region. As a leader of Cleveland State University and President Emeritus of Kent State University, President Schwartz brought new vision and programs to both universities.
The Ohio Board of Regents thanks him for his leadership and commitment to Cleveland State students and the community, as well as for his service on the Northeast Ohio universities study commission, which recommended a partnership between Cleveland State and the Northeastern Ohio Universities College of Medicine (NEOUCOM), that will expand NEOUCOM's medical presence to the Greater Cleveland area. President Schwartz's stewardship for the past seven years has made Cleveland State University a better place to learn.
As the university's board of trustees begins a nationwide search for his replacement, we are grateful President Schwartz will remain at the helm for the next year, and look forward to his announced return to the University System of Ohio as a professor after taking a well-deserved sabbatical.
Thank you, President Schwartz.
